Kranjska Gora 2026: Autumn Preparations in Full Swing

Kranjska Gora, the Slovenian gem nestled in the Julian Alps, is preparing for one of the highlights of the upcoming winter season — the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Kranjska Gora 2026 races for women, which will take place on January 3 and 4, 2026, on the famous Podkoren slope.

Preparations for this prestigious event are in full swing, and the organizers are demonstrating each day that the venue will be ready to welcome the world’s best female skiers.

As reported during a recent visit by the RTV Slovenia TV crew, the organizers have already completed an important step in the preparations: a technical inspection of the course and marking where they will install the television cameras on the Podkoren slope during the Event. The Secretary General of the Kranjska Gora 2026 Organizing Committee, TomaĹľ Ĺ ušteršiÄŤ, together with selected committee members and representatives of RTV Slovenia, carefully examined all key parts of the venue, from the starting gate to the finish arena, to ensure optimal conditions for the competitors and a world-class broadcast for viewers. The placement of cameras is especially important, as it will allow alpine skiing fans to follow every turn and every daring run of the world’s top athletes in real time.

The Podkoren slope, known for its difficulty and long tradition, has been a regular World Cup venue for many years. The course, famous for its steep sections and technically demanding turns, will once again challenge the skiers while promising spectacular performances.

Every year, Kranjska Gora attracts more than ten thousand skiing enthusiasts who, in addition to enjoying top-level competition, fans can soak up the unique atmosphere of this alpine resort. The women’s races on January 3 and 4, 2026, will be the highlight of Slovenia’s alpine skiing season and a continuation of Kranjska Gora’s long-standing tradition. This year’s competition will be especially significant, serving as an important milestone for the athletes as they prepare for the upcoming Olympic Games.

The organizers have expressed full readiness for the event. “Winter is coming, and we are ready,” they stated after inspecting the venue — a sign of their enthusiasm and high level of organization. In addition to technical preparations, attention is already focused on logistics, including safety measures, hospitality for teams, fan activities, and event promotion.

On the Podkoren slope, the skiers will compete in two disciplines that are a traditional part of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Women Kranjska Gora 2026: giant slalom and slalom. The races will offer an opportunity for stars such as Mikaela Shiffrin, Petra Vlhová, and others to showcase their skill on one of the most demanding courses on the World Cup circuit. Slovenian fans will be particularly eager to support home athletes such as Andreja Slokar, Ana Bucik Jogan, and Neja Dvornik, who will be aiming to impress on home snow.

Beyond the competition itself, the event will also serve as an opportunity to promote Slovenia as a winter sports destination. With its picturesque landscape, excellent infrastructure, and warm hospitality, Kranjska Gora continues to prove why it remains one of the most beloved venues on the Alpine Ski World Cup tour, alongside the nearby Planica ski jumping center.
