About the event
The Audi FIS Alpine Skiing Women's World Cup Kranjska Gora 2025 will mark a new chapter in the history of women's Alpine skiing in Slovenia. The Golden Fox, renowned as one of the most important competitions in the Women's World Cup since 1964, began as a symbol of success and top-class organisation in Maribor. Although Maribor ski enthusiasts have for many years cherished the hope of favourable snow conditions, climate change and unpredictable winter conditions have often led to the event moving to Kranjska Gora, where the conditions are much more favourable for the preparation of the course.
In the past, the Golden Fox races have always attracted crowds of fans from all over Slovenia, as well as from neighbouring countries, who have enthusiastically watched the performances of the best Alpine skiers in the world. Despite the relocations, the event has retained its prestigious name, but as time has passed, it has become clear that the snow conditions in Maribor will be less and less suitable for the organisation of such a demanding competition. The last matches held in Maribor were in the 2018/19 season.
The move of the women's World Cup races from Maribor to Kranjska Gora is not only a change of location, but also a symbolic transition into a new era of women's Alpine skiing in Slovenia. With the new official renaming of the Audi FIS Alpine Skiing Women's World Cup Kranjska Gora 2025, the Slovenian venue will be firmly anchored in the World Cup calendar. The organisers are confident that the new venue, with its infrastructure, tradition and conditions, will contribute to an even better experience for the athletes, support staff, organisers and spectators.
With its rich history of hosting world ski competitions, Kranjska Gora has all the conditions to become a permanent fixture on the world ski map. In addition to the men's World Cup races, which have been regularly held in this idyllic Alpine region for many years, the women's part of the caravan will now also find a home. The Slovenian Ski Federation has worked with great effort and commitment to ensure that Slovenian women and men will continue to have the opportunity to support their best female skiers on home soil.
In the years to come, the Audi FIS Alpine Skiing Women's World Cup Kranjska Gora 2025 will continue to enhance Slovenia's reputation as a destination for top winter sport, while boosting tourism and the local economy. The many international visitors who come to Kranjska Gora every year will have the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful nature of the Julian Alps and the excellent skiing infrastructure, which will further strengthen the reputation of this destination.
